Always Stand on 17 or Above

When your hand total reaches 17 or higher, the best strategy is almost always to Stand. The risk of busting (going over 21) is too high to justify drawing another card — except in specific Soft 17 situations where the dealer is showing a high card.

Ace-Ace and 8-8 pairs should always be Split regardless of the dealer's card. With Ace-Ace, you have the potential to hit blackjack on both hands simultaneously. With 8-8, a total of 16 is the weakest hand in blackjack – Splitting gives you better odds across two separate hands.

A pair of 10-10 gives you a very strong total of 20 — it's nearly impossible to lose. Splitting breaks up an almost certain winning hand into two uncertain ones. As for 5-5, a total of 10 is an excellent Double Down opportunity — don't split and throw that advantage away.
